Record meningitis pay out – Case Covered by BBC South East

There has been a great deal of media interest in the case of Jacob Stratton who has been left with severe brain damage following out of hours GP negligence.

At just 6 weeks of age Jacob, now aged 9, contracted pneumococcal meningitis which went undiagnosed despite his parents contacting out of hours GP practitioners, first by phone then by taking Jacob to a drop in centre.

After a lengthy legal battle the case was settled last month and approved by the High Court.

The award has a capitalised value of £15,000,000 and is believed to be the largest ever made for out of hours GP negligence.

Jacob’s case has attracted wide spread national and local media interest having been covered by the Sunday Times and BBC.
