14th October 2024 – This month has seen us supporting the local community by way of purchasing training kits for Whitstable Town FC’s Disability Team.
The Team was formed earlier this year through an approach to the club by father and son Stewart and Keegan Wickham joined by Owen Fitt. The club were keen to support the initiative and hence the team was established. They began training straight away, weekly, at the Belmont Stadium, and joined the Kent Disability Football League.
Keegan Wickham explains:- “We have a varied range of ability and learning needs as well as physical disabilities within the squad and also mental disabilities but when we turn up at training and games the boys are just like any other person in my eyes and they are great lads with loads of ability but one thing they all have in common is the love for the game. They all love the game so much they would go above and beyond to play football and I am happy in myself that I can help them play competitive football. As Managers we take time out of our days to make sure the boys have the best training and every chance to improve as footballers. As well as coaching football I like to think that we also teach them the value of being part of a team on and off the pitch”.
Nick Fairweather, Fairweathers’ CEO commented:- “We are delighted to be supporting Whitstable Town FC again having been their main team shirt sponsors some years ago. This is an excellent initiative and I wish the lads, Stewart, Keegan and Owen all the very best for the season. This new team typifies the fantastic work that everyone at the club is doing in making it such an important part of the local community”.
