As part of our community and social responsibility policy we look, each year, for worthy local causes to support, through donations or charity events.
This year, Gemma Duckworth, the head of our Family Department (legal aid) selected Porchlight for a donation.
Gemma is shown handing over a cheque for £1,000 to Jane Redman, Porchlight’s Corporate Partnerships Manager.
Originally Canterbury Cyrenians, and formed in the 1970s, Porchlight, as it is now known, is a Kent based homelessness charity that works in supporting vulnerable and isolated people to access housing and related support services. Porchlight celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
Gemma Duckworth commented:-
“I am well aware, from the work that we undertake, with vulnerable people, what a vital a lifeline Porchlight is. It provides support to people when they are at their lowest and most vulnerable and I have personally witnessed the crucial importance of this on more than one occasion. They are a highly deserving recipient of a Fairweathers donation this year and I wish them all the very best for continued success and effectiveness going forward.”
Jane Redman commented:-
“Porchlight supports children, young people and adults who are at homeless or at risk of losing their homes. Last year, we helped 4,000 people to get their lives back on track and the support we offer includes accommodation, help with accessing education and work, as well as homelessness prevention services in schools and GP surgeries. It is only with the help of companies like Fairweathers Solicitors that we can continue this work and their support is greatly appreciated.”
