Kate Kennell

In Brief

I am a Senior Solicitor in the Medical Negligence department. I have over 19 years experience as a Personal Injury Lawyer and joined Fairweathers in July 2014.

In the Past

I read Politics at Southampton University before taking my Common Professional Examination and Law Society Finals in Leeds.

I qualified as a solicitor in 1996. Following this, I worked for many years pursuing personal injury claims on behalf of Trade Union members in particular for industrial accidents and industrial disease work.

I was employed as a Partner in a niche practice in the North East, Browells, for over 13 years (1999 – 2012).  I was then headhunted by National Firm, Simpson Millar LLP where I was employed as a Partner for over 2 years (2012 -2014) before moving to Fairweathers.

I have litigated high value claims to Trial, maximising client’s damages and arranging early interim payments for clients, as well as organising and implementing client focused rehabilitation programmes.

I have successfully won two landmark limitation cases (dealing with the issue of whether a claim has been brought in time) both in the High Court and the Court of Appeal.

I have also chaired, investigated and written an Independent Inquiry into the mental health standards of care as instructed by the Strategic Health Authority for Tees, Esk and Wear Valley.

At Work

I now work exclusively handling medical negligence claims for clients.

I have a particular interest in Women’s Health which makes up the majority of my caseload covering gynaecological claims, breast surgery and all aspects of pregnancy and birth trauma.

I also deal with claims arising from neglect in care and nursing homes.

Industry Associations

I am an Accredited Senior Litigator with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.

Spare Time

I have a 13 year old son who I enjoy spending time with as well as playing the saxophone, keeping fit, listening to music and sailing.

I have been lucky enough to travel throughout North America, Australia, North Africa as well as Europe.

  • After having two previous solicitors dealing with my case, it was like a breath of fresh air dealing with your company…your level of service was excellent. (Mrs S, Kent)

  • I found Kate Virica and her secretary most helpful. She gave me practical, honest advice which I needed to help me with making educated decisions throughout my claim. I am glad I had Fairweathers on my side to put an end to a very difficult episode in my life. Thank you very much. Mrs Harvey, Worthing.

  • Extremely happy with Kate’s services and all the services Fairweathers has provided me with. I have and would recommend other people to Fairweathers Solicitors. And God forbid anything else happened to me I would always come back to Fairweathers Solicitors (Mrs S, Nr Chatham)
