Consultant
Graham Balmforth
In brief
I am a Consultant Solicitor Advocate in the Medical Negligence Department. I have over 20 years’ experience as a Clinical Negligence lawyer and joined Fairweathers in October 2023.
History
I initially qualified and worked as a Barrister in 1998. I worked predominantly in the Central London Courts before moving to my home City of York in North Yorkshire in 2000 where I worked as an in-house advocate for a leading civil firm. I left in 2007 to begin work as Head of Clinical Negligence in a fledgling department for a regional firm in West Yorkshire and I transferred to become a Solicitor in 2012. I remained in post until 2020 when I left to begin a new career as a self-employed Consultant.
In work
Historically, I have been involved in a very broad range of different surgical cases. My own personal caseload has been mixed but there has been a movement towards serious surgical errors, fatalities and consequential inquest proceedings. Outside of these fatal injuries cases, I take a particular interest in complex cases involving diagnostic error and cases involving the senses, in particular: ophthalmic, dental /maxilla-facial.
I hold post graduate forensic medical qualifications both from the University of Glasgow – DipFMS and from the University of Verona – Msc (F.Med). I am currently studying a short course in ‘Precision Medicine’ at the University of Geneva. Fairweathers Solicitors encourages a very professional and selective approach to its cases and that pays off for clients as they can be assured that they are represented by a real specialist lawyer and not just a ‘claims processor’ for whom a medical claim is just one more case on his list.
In my spare time
I am married and therefore, much of my time is spent working through a list of several hundred DIY jobs.
